Important Message from Bowel Screening Wales

If you have received a bowel cancer screening kit - Please DO NOT COMPLETE and SEND IN.

Please wait until further instructions once the COVID-19 response period has settled. This is likely to be for approximately a 12 week period. Please keep your test kit safe until the programme restarts.

This follows the UK Government advice on Monday 23 March and by the Welsh Government announcement of plans to suspend non-urgent outpatient appointments and non-urgent surgical admissions and procedures. JAG (Joint Advisory Group on GI endoscopy) have also advised to cancel non-urgent and screening colonoscopies. We will be supporting our colonoscopy units to only prioritise the most urgent cases.

Screening referrals for colonoscopy in majority of cases are not urgent. This will mean that we will stop testing bowel screening kits as of Friday 03 April as those individuals who might otherwise need a referral for colonoscopy will not be referred given the current focus on only urgent procedures.

We will make arrangements for all of the individuals that have not had an opportunity to complete their bowel screening kit during the COVID-19 response period, to do so as soon as we are able to resume the programme.
